He appeared in the popular horror film Halloween in 1978, and then appeared two years later in The Fog as Dan O'Bannon. He then played the Secretary of State in Carpenter's popular 1981 film
Escape from New York.
In the 1970s, Cyphers had a recurring role in The Betty White Show, and made guest appearances on television series like Barnaby Jones and The Dukes of Hazzard, as well as in the 1977 mini series Roots.
